WHAT UNSUSTAINABLE URBAN GROWTH LOOKS LIKE
Ron Heustis of Indiana Dept of Transportation with Andy Barber - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, getting ready to tell Metro Council about the status of the Bridges Project 12-13-12
METRO COUNCIL OK WITH $ 10 Billion BAD BRIDGES DEAL STORY HERE
Engineering flags show where contractors will soon be clearing 42 acres of woods to make way for the East End Bridge. The 42 acres of wooded area along
River Road is identified summer maternity habitat for the endangered Indiana Bat that is being decimated by white nose syndrome - WNS.
It should be obvious that the public purse in Louisville is unguarded by our elected Council members and open to plunder. It seems any tassel-loafered genius who wants to propose a new venture that puts millions in the pocket of big engineering and banking firms can count on Metro Council turning a deaf ear to objections from the 98%. So it is we pay for Yum Center or inducements for an NBA team to relocate or pay for 35 years for the mis-conceived bridges project.
Building both bridges costs $ 1.6 billion according to the latest contractor estimates, but a private toll operator will collect tolls for 35 years after construction amounting to more than $ 10 billion in toll revenue.
Who gets the $ 8.4 billion difference ? and why we are paying so much in excess of the actual cost is apparently an uninteresting question in the ‘ville.
